How Buying Super Bowl Tickets Could Cost You $2 Million Dollars

American, Football, Sport, Game

I like sports. Watching sports. Playing sports. It’s great exercise and a way to encourage team building, leadership, and character.

However, going to an actual sporting event is a whole other matter entirely. I did some research and found out that regularly going to sporting events can make you BROKE!

Going to see your favorite sports team could put your bank account on empty faster than a housewife with all-access to your credit cards!

I’m not talking $50 tickets here. Oh no. We are talking thousand of dollars to watch Brady, LeBron, and Bryce Harper do what they do best live and in person. It will cost you.

This year’s Super Bowl is coming up on Sunday and if you want to get into the stadium, you better be prepared to give up a couple mortgage payments.

Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming Super Bowl and how it can really cost you $2 million bucks!

YOU HAVE TO PAY THE COST TO BE THE BOSS OR SIT NEAR THEM

What really jumped out at me was the average ticket price of $7,655. This is an insane amount of money to spend on one day for a few hours of entertainment. I would rather invest that money.

Matter of fact, I could invest in all the companies that are sponsoring the Super Bowl such as Frito Lay, Bud-light, Live Nation, Ticketmaster, Delta Airlines, Marriott Hotel, and Fox. All these companies have a stake in the game and are making a mint off all those SB parties and tailgating. Let me get in on the action too!

According to Marketwatch, tickets purchased through Ticketmaster LYV, -2.30%, the official ticketing partner of the NFL, is higher than any other year in the past six years, the company said Tuesday.

TICKET PRICES ON ALL THE MAJOR TICKETING SITES

It would be safe to say that there is a monopoly going on with where you can purchase tickets. Much like healthcare in the America, buying event tickets is starting to become a racket.

I know folks that say healthcare will cost their families $1,100 to $1,800 or more per month. That is outrageous!

It is eye-popping prices like that which case people to forgo getting teeth pulled and limping around on crutches for a month before finally getting that sprained ACL looked at.

Ticket gouging is all the rage and I feel the general public is being taken advantage of. However, if you do not agree with me that’s cool. I can only speak for myself in saying I am not willing to pay $5,000 on one event unless I had that much income or more coming in off my passive investments every month.

That being said, I am taking you behind the curtain of Super Bowl ticket prices.

Prepare yourself and gird your loins.

Image result for ticketmaster logo

Ticketmaster prices ranged from $4,950 to $26,125 for VIP. That is what some colleges are charges for anywhere between one semester and four years of college!

Vivid Seats prices ranged from $4,900 to $14,136. And unless this was a typo, a 11-person suite would cost $327,020 each. Are you freaking kidding me?! That is the cost of a house! If you invest that money and let it ride, you could be a millionaire in like 12 years!

Image result for stubhub logo

StubHub prices ranged from $4,945 to $49,000. Again, investing this money and letting it ride would make you a multimillionaire.

Over 40 years with a 10% interest rate, you could have $2,217,703.52 in your retirement account and be a 401(k) multimillionaire!

Granted most people are not willing or able to cough up this dough, but for those thinking able maxing out 10 credit cards to be treated like a VIP for like six hours you are giving up $2 million.

Image result for seatgeek logo

SeatGeek prices ranged from $4,448 to $17,425. You could send you kid to college or on a European immersive education endeavor to learn different cultures and languages.

Fun Fact: The late great NBA legend Kobe Bryant spoke Italian fluently as he lived abroad with his family as a kid while his father played in the NBA. May he forever rest in peace.

Here is a Super Bowl price tracker from SeatGeek.

EventDateAverage Resale Price
Super Bowl LIV2020-02-02$10,973
Super Bowl LIII2019-02-03$5,073
Super Bowl LII: New England Patriots vs Philadelphia Eagles2018-02-04$5,373
Super Bowl LI: Atlanta Falcons vs New England Patriots2017-02-05$3,976
Super Bowl 50: Denver Broncos vs Carolina Panthers2016-02-07$4,531
Super Bowl XLIX: New England Patriots vs Seattle Seahawks2015-02-01$4,268
Super Bowl XLVIII: Denver Broncos vs Seattle Seahawks2014-02-02$2,598

According to CBS, $40,000 Super Bowl tickets could get you admitted to the “72 Club,” so-named after the Miami Dolphins’ perfect 1972 season.

Their $40,000 ticket includes black car service to and from Hard Rock Stadium, a private lane on stadium grounds to bypass traffic, a private concert from an A-list performer, high-end food and booze, and even access to the field for the post-game celebration.

And if you want more luxury and exclusiveness there’s an even higher level for the V-VIPs: Nine open-air living room suites that Walls says feel “like sitting in the back of a yacht, only at the 50-yard line.” Priced at $750,000 per suite, it’ll cost about as much as a yacht, too.

Again, investing this money could make you a millionaire in like three years. Obviously, you have to be a high roller with a net worth of like $25 million to even consider this kind of excess IMO.

Here’s where most millennial’s are investing. You could do the same instead of going to sports events.

One of my absolute favorite blogs posts out there is about why not to invest time and money into professional sports by blogger Mr. Groovy at Freedom is Groovy.

Heck, that $750,000 swanky VIP suite cost is my FIRE number as that amount spits off investment enough income for me to live off of and not have to work again.

I put my money into index funds and let it ride. You could put it into 500 index funds like me. The S&P 500 is up 200%! Get in on this market!

Especially, considering that 50% of Americans are not invested in the stock market and have $0 in savings and investments.

I am all about rejecting new car ownership to become Financially Independent. No new cars and no Super Bowl tickets for me. I want to be free!

But this is your life. You decide. You want to spend $40,000 to watch football live or let that money ride in Mr. Market for 40 years and have $2 million in net worth?

Invest your money into you and your family instead of sports teams and their billionaire owners.

You heard it here first folks.

Fiscal Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number

Architecture, Building, Concrete

I want people to remember me as a full on entertainer and a good person. – Aaliyah

In case you have not already heard the news, the late superstar Aaliyah has her very own Madame Tussauds Wax Figure in her likeness from the Try Again Era.

Although, Aaliyah is gone she is not forgotten.

Therefore, this next post is titled in her honor. This post is named after her first ever record, Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number which is the debut studio album by American singer Aaliyah. It was released under Jive and Blackground Records on May 24, 1994, in the United States.

Image result for age aint nothin but a number

I learned a lot from watching Aaliyah work so hard in her youth.

Like her, I want to be remembered as well, although as a full on financial blogger and a good person.

So let’s get right to it and start talking money.

When in doubt: save.

Don’t ever let anyone tell you what you cannot do or accomplish.

People have said to me the following:

You’ve been in school forever. Are you ever going to graduate?

Are you in school finishing your associate degree, because I know the bachelor’s takes a long time so you are probably only halfway done right?

You should write a book or something? Are you ever going to do that?

It is impossible to save any money. Is it possible to save thousands?

Winning the lottery is a great way to get rich. Do you play?

You should go for the Master’s degree. Why a second bachelor’s?

Why get a 2nd Master’s degree? Why not go for the doctorate?

You really have no car payment?

You’ve gained a little weight.

You’ve lost weight.

You have been saving forever, you are not ever going to buy a home.

I laughed at all these questions and comments.

Image result for aaliyah gifs

This is my life. I set the pace. No one else. I control my destiny and the outcome of my life. I control the narrative.

And just to set the record straight, I did finish my bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. So take that haters. In addition, I also bought a home, started a daily exercise routine, a health and wellness regimen, started a blog in 2016, wrote an eBook in 2019, paid off my car in 2009, don’t play the lottery, and learned to save thousands by not shopping or taking fancy vacations.

And after I paid off my car, this is how I felt. Just like Katelyn Ohashi at the ESPYs. And like in her acceptance speech that night, I too had made a reference about Cardi B.

Paying off debt and saving. This all took many years. Like over a decade to accomplish. I know folks are out there retiring at like 27. But guess what? Life is full of ups and downs, but I never let my goals be far from my mind and kept them in sight because whether you retire at 22 or 62, fiscal age ain’t nothing but a number.

Safe to say, I set out to conquer every mountain or hill that was put in front of me. Yea baby!! I feel like dancing!!!

Life is complex. No one has all the answers. No one has a crystal ball to see the future. But reading up on the past has let me make some great predictions on what I think will happen.

For instance, after reading books on history, finance and biographies such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Daymond John, Bruce Lee, Dale Carnegie, Pat Benatar, Sean “Puffy” Combs, Warren Buffet, Ben Stein, Tony Robbins, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Dave Grohl, Kevin O’Leary, Barbara Corcoran, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and countless others, it is safe to assume the following:

  • Financial markets are cyclical. About every 10-20- years the market corrects itself and there is a recession. Plan accordingly.
  • When stocks go down, buy more.
  • Save until it hurts. Something like 50% or more of your income.
  • Things will get more expensive in the future.
  • You can expect inflation to average at least 2-3% a year.
  • Investing in real estate tends to yield good results over many years.
  • If you do nothing else in real estate, at least purchase your primary residence.
  • Buying franchises is expensive.
  • Find your talent and exploit it for profit. If you are a good mechanic, then charge a good and fair price for your work.
  • Never undervalue yourself.

I truly believe optimism is the key to happiness. I am always in a good mood. Laughter is always a part of my day and life.

My mind is always full of ideas, my eyes are clear and my heart is full.

I can’t hear you!!! Say it with me now!! Louder!!! Say it like you are in a stadium full of screaming football fans and Antonio Brown is out there running drills and scoring like he did on an episode of HardKnocks! So say it loud for me! One more time for the cheap seats in the back!!!

When people start complaining, I always feel that they should also provide solutions to their problems. I believe in being solution-based.

One of the greatest joys of my life is speaking my mind. I have done this since I was a little girl. I hold nothing in or back. I am always respectful, but I set clear boundaries on how I let people treat me. I respect others so I expect the same treatment in return. Instead of holding back, I dive in. Speaking your heart is a great way to free yourself from the constraints of life. You have to tell people what you want if you ever expect to get anything. SO SPEAK UP!!

In this life, you have to keep going. There is no time to rest on your laurels. No pity parties here. If you want financial independence, then you must fight for it. You have to work your butt off for it. Even if it takes, 10, 20, 30, or 40 years. My goal is to have at least $2 million in assets before I retire. Over 10 years later, I am still working on that goal. NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS AND YOUR GOALS!!! If you fall down, get up! You get up, dust yourself off and like Aaliyah said, “try again.”

Best of luck to you all in your fiscal adventures.

Choose Experiences Over Things: My Experience At The JLO It’s My Party Tour Concert

You get what you give. What you put into things is what you get out of them. – Jennifer Lopez

I took this picture while I was waiting to get in to the concert.

I have learned to choose experiences over things. You put those pair of expensive jeans on a credit card and 10 years later those $80 jeans could really cost you $300 with 25 percent interest attached. That wasn’t on the price tag! Those jeans will be long gone by then, but that time you went camping with your family and friends will be great memories that last a lifetime.

In the last several years, I have decided to spend money more on experiences. After seeing that episode of Gilmore Girls Concert Interruptus, I knew one day I would go to a concert so I could be as happy as Loreali and Sookie was to go see their favorite band. Those great feelings you get from actually doing something and paying for it with cash are priceless.

That is exactly what I did on July 17, 2019. I went to see Jennifer Lopez in concert. And I loved every minute of it!

Took this short video on my phone while at the concert.

She stopped by DC and performed at Capital One Arena after doing her make-up concert in Madison Square Garden in NY after the blackout on Saturday July 13. What a professional.

And let me tell you. I looked into what it takes to do concerts and JLo’s setlist and tour dates. Performing is grueling work.

Instead of spending a fortune and being close enough to the stage to reach out and touch the artist and see the white of their eyes, I selected a seat that just fine to see how different my experience would be. My seat cost $49.95 and I have a blast!

You do not have to go in debt or sell your belongings on Craigslist or drive for Uber or Lyft just to spend $500 on concert tickets. The jumbo screens show you all the action just fine in my book.

This was also her first tour since ending her Las Vegas Residency which made like $100 million in ticket sales!

For a night out on the town it cost me about $100 bucks!

So if you want to paint the tow red, I suggest you stay in the black and pay cash and not go in the red and use credit. Cause you know your girl Greenbacks Magnet is all about saving a dollar!

See my post Why Halle Berry And I Continue To Save So Much

If you read my tweets then you know I can’t stand debt. I would stop doing just about everything in order to save up huge chunks of money to pay off debt. I once saved up $15,000 to pay off $14,745 worth of debt! Paying debt off in chunks feels awesome.

I learned to pay off my credit card and other debt in lump sums from reading about how Grammy award-winning artist John Legend doing it after he got his first big paycheck. Smart!

See my post Money Advice I Got From John Legend

How how I hate DEBT. Let me tweet the ways!!

Just hearing about another pro athlete going broke is enough for me to change my free willing money spending ways.

Breaking News: Adrian Peterson is in debt after making $100 million in earnings in the NFL. This is my version of Scared Straight. Scared Debt Straight that is. Is he not reading my blog?!!!

I encourage you all out there to stop what you are doing and find a way to start saving 5 percent of your income.

Start with just $500 in the bank and work your way up to one month of expenses. That Is how I went from $25 in the bank to $5,000. Save for the things you want. Paying with cash is freedom.

It’s like JLo says, “you get what you give.” You have to work for what you want. She says she gets nothing for free. And that she has to pay for everything.

The harder you work, the more you get. I’m taking my money earning and saving cues from Jlo. I like to study the self-made. And Jenny from the Bronx is as self-made as they come. So happy birthday JLo. Make a wish. I’ll tell you mine. It’s simple really. I want to always spend less than I earn. Your turn.

“You have to fight for the things you want.” – Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez is a quadruple threat: actress, singer, dancer, and producer.

It was recently reported earlier this month that in March 2019 she got engaged to former MLB phenom Alex Rodriguez (A-Rod).

Jenny from the Bronx has parlayed her talent into major coin.

Her estimated net worth is over $300 million.

Insider reported it as high as $400 million!

So how did Jenny from the block earn her wealth?

Well, you are about to find out.

As you may know, I am on a mission: financial freedom.

Therefore, I started to study the self-made.

How did they get so wealthy? What did they do? What do they do with their 24 hours we are given in a single day?

Today we talk all things J to the L-O! Hello!

Let’s go!!!

STARTING OUT

Jennifer Lynn Lopez was born on July 24, 1969 in Castle Hill, New York City. Growing up in the Bronx with her parents and siblings she watched how hard her parents worked to make a living as Puerto Ricans living in the richest country in the world.

She knew that she had a responsibility to do well because her parents gave and sacrificed so much.

She was quoted in an interview as saying, “I had to do well. I couldn’t let them (her parents) down.”

Jennifer says she was always training for something. And dance become her go to activity.

DANCING TO THE FRONT

In 1991, Lopez began appearing as a Fly Girl dancer on In Living Color, where she remained a regular until she decided to pursue an acting career in 1993.

If you have ever seen the Janet Jackson video “That’s the way love Goes,” then you will see a young Jennifer Lopez dancing and talking to Janet. She performed as a dancer for her while as pursuing her dreams of acting.

So you could say like a moth to a flame, J. LO gravitated towards acting. Haha

You also may remember her dancing with Puffy or P. Diddy, as he goes by now, in the music video “Been Around The World.” That was in 1997. Haven’t seen it. No problem.

Just keep your head down and work. Success comes when you work harder than everybody else. – Jennifer Lopez

After wrapping the film, Jennifer Lopez decided her next ambition would be recording an album. She set her sights on making this goal happen.

She got a record deal and worked with music super producer Tommy Mottola of Sony.

In an interview she said that people did not believe in her project; therefore, she had to put some of her own money into it.

In fact, “If You Had My Love” became the first debut single to top the Billboard Hot 100 since Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time” a mere four months earlier.

One month later in June, her debut album “On the 6” was released, effectively solidifying Lopez’s status as a Latin pop artist. Certified by the RIAA, “On the 6” is 3x platinum, selling 3.42 million units worldwide.

She never looked back.

Here is the video just in case you have not seen it.

She also did the song “Ain’t it Funny.” Again featuring her partner in crime (of making sweet music that is) Ja Rule. Together this pair made magic happen. They just had great chemistry when working together.

Ain’t it funny dropped off the J. LO album on June 20, 2001.

Here are some lyrics for you.

J to the L-O

Hello

Well now you know where I got that from, which I state at the beginning of this post. 😉

Here is the chorus

Ain’t it funny

Baby that you want me, when you had me

Love is crazy, I’m glad I can smile and say

Ain’t it funny

Then came “Jenny from the Block.” This song dropped on September 26, 2002.  One of her HOTTEST music videos! If you had no idea what she was capable or of who she was, then this video stopped all doubts.

The lyrics go like this.

Don’t be fooled by the rocks that I got

I’m still, I’m still Jenny from the block

Love my life and my public

Put God first

Then can’t forget to stay real

To me it’s like breathing

Ah yes, she says to stay real or I’m real in this song. An obvious reference to her song I’m real with Ja Rule. 😉

Here is the chorus.

Don’t be fooled by the rocks that I got

I’m still, I’m still Jenny from the block

Used to have a little, now I have a lot

No matter where I go, I know where I came from (from the Bronx!)

Unlike her previous studio albums: On the 6 (1999) and J.Lo (2001), Lopez had a more “hands-on” role on This Is Me… Then. The 2002 album also had more of an adult-R&B sound. Musically, majority of the songs on This Is Me… Then were lyrically “dedicated” to her relationship with then-fiancé, actor Ben Affleck.

“I have to work, for my soul.” – Jennifer Lopez

Nearly two decades since the release of “On the Six,” Lopez has dropped seven more albums, and has a ninth album slated for release this year.

Lopez has embarked on five tours, and that has undoubtedly added to her net worth. Her first tour, aptly titled “Let’s Get Loud” was in 2001 and she walked away with a reported $765,000 in earnings, according to Money Nation.

The bank balances keep rising as her star does.

Lopez has earned an estimated $90 million for appearing on the big screen, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

She was also a judge on “American Idol” for three years. At a reported $12 million per season, according to Billboard, that’s an impressive $36 million for serving as a mentor to well, the next Jennifer Lopez.

J. Lo is also a business maven.

Just like Rihanna.

Aside from her musical and acting talents, Lopez is also a savy businesswoman. In 1998, she founded her clothing line that currently sells swimwear, eyewear, and fragrances. In 2004, her brand earned $300 million in revenue, making J. Lo the 19th richest person under 40, according to Fortune.

A decade later, in 2012, J. Lo set out for her first worldwide tour, the Dance Again World Tour. After 78 shows, this would be Lopez’s highest-earning tour, and she pocketed $50,362,300, according to Money Nation.

If you look at the difference in her first tour in 2001 and her one in 2012 ($765,000 to $50,362,300), you will notice it took over a decade to earn this type of money.

What does that tell me?

That building wealth TAKES TIME.

It took me 6 years to go from saving $1 a day to $50 a month to $15,000 a year!

I make a goal and then chart a course to get there no matter how long it takes.

Just like Jennifer Lopez.

Between her current residency in Las Vegas and worldwide clothing line, J. Lo is hardly short on funds.

On January 20, 2016, she debuted at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino her “All I Have” residency, dazzling fans with sequined pieces and elaborate sets.

On August 13, her shows reached an incredible milestone: $1 million in ticket sales, the highest grossing show in Planet Hollywood’s history, according to Billboard.

Between June 2016-June 2017, Lopez made $38 million dollars, consequently landing her at the #11 spot on Forbes’ Highest-Paid Female Celebrities of 2017. She’s also already made an estimated $47 million in 2018, according to Forbes.

Beauty is not just physical. – Halle Berry

I agree that beauty is not just physical. Beauty has many forms, and I feel that confidence, self-respect, and loving yourself are some of them.

These are some other beautiful things to behold:

  • A child at play; while living in a safe neighborhood.
  • Reading a book on a beach at 1 o’clock in the afternoon.
  • Taking a nap in a hammock.
  • Walking in Central Park.
  • Seeing the sun come up while vacationing on the lake.
  • Seeing the sunset on the beach.

However, all of those beautiful things, albeit free; still cost money to be able to do and enjoy them.

Many of these things require that you have some form of prosperity or relative financial cushion to enjoy creature comforts that can easily be taken for granted such as taking a nap in the afternoon beyond the age of five.

Instead of having some semblance of wealth, you will need to actually have a few coins in the bank in order to have any sort of comfort EVER.

That being said, I had to stop and think. Why Do I Save So Much?

I remember reading an article in which they decided to pose this similar type of question to Academy Award winning actress Halle Berry who is worth an estimated $80 million.

Image result for halle berry

She answered that the reason she saves is because she knows the business she is in (showbiz) this Hollywood stint may all come to an end one day. Specifically, she says that she saves because she never knows “when this trip will end.” And that she wants to have enough savings to make sure she is secure, comfortable, and financially independent when the paychecks stop pouring in and the fame starts to wane. In addition, she carries tons of life insurance.

I too carry tons of life insurance!

If it’s good enough for Halle, then it’s good enough for me.

Halle is a saver.

Here is why I am a saver too.

WELCOME TO THE GOOD LIFE

If you think money will change who you are, then think again. Money just gives us a bigger stage to project who we already are.

Will Smith said it best: “Money and success don’t change people; they merely amplify what is already there.”

Many people may not know this but Halle Berry was elected Homecoming or Prom Queen at her high school. It was predominantly white. Not believing that she had won, the other contestant asked for a recount. Halle agreed. Halle won again. She demanded another recount. Halle refused. Halle then graciously accepted her crown.

Related image

If you think about that, you can see from a young age that Halle has always had to work for what she’s got. Being PRETTY is not enough!

I actually was on my school newspaper. It was one of the only times in high school that I did not feel like I was being judged and I had some say in what was going on around me. I too have always had to prove MYSELF!

I get it. No one believes what they can’t see. Seeing is believing.

However, I was actually working towards my goals – buying a home, getting a bachelor’s, finishing a Master’s – all tangible things that people can observe my actions and see me doing such as studying, house shopping, and walking across the stage to accept my diploma.

It was not until AFTER I had done all those things that people started to take me more seriously and show me SOME RESPECT!!

It just would have been nice to get a little more of it while I was the UNDERDOG and working towards MY GOALS with people around me that had WAY MORE PRIVILEGE.

I paid WAY LESS than $50,000 for a degree.

I paid WAY LESS than $1 million for a home.

I did that because I knew what I could afford and that I didn’t want to be in debt forever.

I wanted freedom. And that doesn’t come cheap. You have to EARN your freedom through work.

CAREER IS IMPORTANT

Career is important, but nothing really supersedes my roles as a mother. – Halle Berry

I never wanted to be a model. My modelling career was nothing but a stepping stone to my acting career and that’s all I ever saw it as. A pointless rock in the river that has to be stepped on in order to get to the meaningful oasis of acting. – Halle Berry

Throughout my career I have been talked out of things I wanted to do, and when I look back, I think I should have followed my instincts. – Halle Berry

What’s the worst that can happen? If it doesn’t do well I can put on my big girl panties, deal with it and move on. – Halle Berry

I have learned that having a CAREER and not just a JOB is important.

A job is what you do to pay the bills.

A career is what you do when you have passion for something and can skip to work.

I decided at the age of 15 to get my degree as a STEPPING STONE towards a career. I ended up working in Financial services which is right up my alley as you can tell from this blog. 😉

However, I have mostly done the things I wanted to do and rarely let myself get talked out of those things. Maybe that is why I am so happy.

The secret to happiness: Do the things that make you happy and don’t do the things that make you unhappy. The End.

No matter what. Good or Bad. MOVE ON. Keep moving forward. It’s like Ariana Grande says, “thank you, next.”

I knew if I wanted to make more than minimum wage that I had to get some skills or education. Not knowing what trade to do I went for the degree. I knew not to just drift or stand still.

I didn’t want to end up at 35 with no savings, no home, no family, and no decent job.

I had no shame working as waitress to make ends meet until I could do better. I was making about $2.39 an hour plus tips.

Now I’m making and saving more than 40% of my income.

All things come in time.

BEAUTY FADES

Image result for miss congeniality gif

Let me tell you something – being thought of as a beautiful woman has spared me nothing in life. No heartache, no trouble. Love has been difficult. Beauty is essentially meaningless and it is always transitory. – Halle Berry

While being called beautiful is extremely flattering, I would much rather be noticed for my work as an actress. – Halle Berry

A person’s self-esteem has nothing to do with how she looks. – Halle Berry

Related image

Your preaching to the choir. Tell me something I don’t know. Beauty is transitory alright meaning it is not permanent. CORRECT.

As you age, you will change. It is inevitable. So you need to be able to do something more than stand still, look pretty, and to quote Miss Congeniality, “be on stage with nothing to do but convert oxygen into carbon dioxide.” Haha

So enjoy your life! And pass me some more pizza 😂

INNER PEACE

The first step is clearly defining what it is you’re after, because without knowing that, you’ll never get it. – Halle Berry

If you set out to do something and you give it your all and it doesn’t work out, be willing to modify your goal slightly. Have the ability to look in another direction. A small shift could guide you to the real purposes of your life. – Halle Berry

There have been so many people who have said to me, ‘You can’t do that,’ but I’ve had an innate belief that they were wrong. Be unwavering and relentless in your approach. – Halle Berry

I’m not afraid of portraying anything on-screen. – Halle Berry

I’m just going to live my life and be who I am. – Halle Berry

If you are a wrestling fan, then you have heard of the moniker BE FEARLESS from the Bella Twins.

And that is how you should live your life. Be fearless. Be relentless in your pursuits. But always try to do the right thing.

During an interview for the cover of the April issue of InStyle, which hit the Internet on March 12, Ciara said, “If you want to get somewhere in life, you’ve got to have a compass. You’ve got to know where you really want to get to.”

I have a pretty strong professional and Morale Compass. I try to, like Spike Lee says, “Do the right thing.”

If you read my last post on The Rock, then you know that being who you are can get you far in this world, but nothing happens without a dint of hard work.

See my post on The Rock

Academy Award winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones said in the book Rise and Grind that she informed her parents at a young age she wanted to be an actress. They did not approve until she got them an appointment with her school guidance counselor.

They informed her parents that Catherine would never be satisfied with being an accountant as she is too artsy. Let her PURSUE her passion. Since Catherine was a good child and student, they agreed to let her pursue her dreams and would support her!

At that point my mouth drops open. You could hear crickets and a pen drop. I could not believe it. All that from a conversation. WELL DONE! Never underestimate the power of your words.

AGE AIN’T NOTHING BUT A NUMBER

I see women in their 30s getting plastic surgery, pulling this up and tucking that back. It’s like a slippery slope – once you start you pull one thing one way and then you think, ‘Oh my God, I’ve got to do the other side.’ – Halle Berry

I’m not sad at all about turning 40. – Halle Berry

I’m not a fanatic about exercising. For me, it’s about moderation and balance. – Halle Berry

If you ever saw the 1997 movie Selena starring Jennifer Lopez, then you may remember the scene where Abraham Quintanilla (played by James Edward Olmos) says that he learned a very important lesson in life, which is that you have to be who you are.

That is not just wisdom in old age talk. That is the TRUTH.

Everything  have that was GOOD came from me being WHO I AM. Whatever you do or whomever you are…OWN IT!!!!

SUCCESS AT LAST OR IS IT?

I repeat, whatever you do…OWN IT!

I’m told that I am sassy and dominating. I take that as the compliment I know it is supposed to be. 😉

Well this sassy Miss started doing the following with her money:

Savings Year Monthly Savings Amount End of Year Total Savings
2013 $50 $600
2014 $100 $1200
2015 $150 $1800
2016 $250 $3000
2017 $333 $3996
2018 $1,111.04 $13,333.06
2019* $1,211.09 $14,533.06

As of this writing, I am on track to save $15,000 for 2019.

I have already set a saving goal of $16,000 for 2020.

I always look to the future because it is coming one day after all. So I set savings goals for the coming years of 2021-2025 of $17,000+ each and every year. My ultimate goal is to save $20,000-$25,000 each year. That would allow me to save $100,000 every 4 to 5 years.

I also believe in donating money to good and charitable causes like Halle.

This is what Halle told MainStreet: ‘Many people utilize charitable giving as a great tax write off, and it is. But more than that, for me, charitable giving is a financial investment in the human spirit. When we invest in each other, we invest in ourselves. There is no single investment that I have pursued that has brought a greater return, than helping someone who needs it.’

Well said, Ms. Berry.

WHAT IS A ONE-TWEET FINANCIAL PLAN?

A financial plan that is 240 characters or less and can be sent out in a tweet.

I know what you’re thinking. Yeah, right. Well, since seeing is believing I will show you exactly what I mean.

Here is my one-tweet financial plan.

And due to the recent government shutdown, I have also created a one-tweet financial plan government shutdown edition. 😉 It’s kind of like how they created the Scrabble game deluxe. You take an already good thing and then just expand upon it and make it even better.

I also like to think ahead to the future and plan for my taxes. You need to save today because the future gets more expensive. What costs a $1 today will cost $1.25 in the future. Plan ahead.

Speaking of Scrabble…

LISTEN

It is one of the best qualities you can have. Being a good listener can lead to lasting marriages, better employment, and happier relationships.

You see #2 there. @mjp2520. Yes, that’s me. 😉

I started reading about personal finance and attending seminars or conferences long before I started writing and tweeting about it. Coming from a place of experience and information gives you a different point of view (POV). That POV can make you an expert in your field. Never underestimate the power of just listening and observing.

THINK

I want you to write down your goals, thoughts, wants, needs, and desires. Like I said before, seeing is believing. Think before you act.

There is nothing wrong with moving slowly or with caution. However, that does not give you the right to move like a turtle. First, think. Then act and move expeditiously once a decision has been made. Move quick. Make haste. Do not overthink it. This can lead to analysis paralysis.

Moving slowly does allow you to more clearly see the path ahead. But once you see it, I want you to run toward your goal. Not walk. RUN!

EARN

You have to earn money to save it. It is just that simple.

I was in debt up to my eyeballs. However, I did not toss my hands in the air and say who cares as I will be in debt forever. Nope. Not me. I chipped away at my debt. Then, I slowly started to have savings. I emerged from the debt cocoon I was in and became a soon to be debt-free butterfly.

I found ways to get rid of my debt. By any means necessary. It didn’t matter if I had to sell items, save my change, get 0% deals on every item I purchased, or stop buying chewing gum just to save a buck.

Once the debt started going away, I had tons of disposable income. Go figure.

INVEST

I cannot stress this enough. Investing can be the difference between you being one of the haves or have nots. I hate to break it to you, but the top earners invest.

Investing is a long game.

I read the wealthy invest up to 20 percent or more of their income each and every year.

The 1 percent are making a killing in the stock market. And you can too.

When I decided I was going to be rich, I turned my attention toward investing. If you want to know where Greenbacks Magnet is investing, then check out my post below. 😉

See my post How I turned a $450 car payment into $100,000

Here are some of my tweets on some good investment books to read.

The wealthy also read A LOT!!!

According to Grant Cardone, CEO’s read 60 books and attend 6 conferences a year. The average person reads less than one book a year. I read that in the 10X Rule.

Read the 10x rule. Took his advice. Set 10x goals and do 10x more action. It worked. Many thanks! Went from saving $10 to $10k a year. #OBSESSED

WAIT

Yes, like the Maroon 5 song. Wait.

Anything worth having is worth the wait.

You know all those overnight success stories you hear? Well, those are garbage. It takes years of hard work, persistence, determination and sacrifice to get anywhere worth going.

All those bands you hear about or people you see on television. They were honing their craft long before records executives starting signing them to deals.

Gene Simmons said he was going from gig to gig in an old van living off hot dogs with his bandmates in KISS.

Pat Benatar left her job as a bank teller to start working as a singing waitress making $4,000 a month before she hit it big.

You know their names now, but there was a time they were broke and unknown.

Success comes from doing not luck. And the toiling to make that success happen, can take years or even decades. So, prepare yourself.

Don’t be like Beetlejuice. Remember that scene in the movie where he took his number and was impatient. It was hilarious. One of Michael Keaton’s most memorable roles.

Image result for beetlejuice number scene gif

The point is that you have to be patient. I do not mean wait forever. I just mean that all good things do take some amount of time.

Don’t be so quick to judge or criticize others, before you know the full story.

“I praise loudly. I blame softly.” – Catherine II, Catherine the Great

FORGIVE

They say it’s divine.

“Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.” – Oscar Wilde

And I make sure to forgive. I always forgive, once.

See my post A Christmas Carol: Lessons in Finance, Business, and Life

TRY

Don’t be a quitter. Try first. You will never know if you have got the goods to make it, unless you get out there and do it. Do something. Don’t just wait to be discovered. Get out there and meet people. Shake some hands. Knock down some doors. Make some phone calls. Just try.

SAVE

This one thing can change your life. Saving. It is the start of all things to come. The act alone is a reflection of who you are and what you value.

The foundation for all your future wealth is derived from this word and your ability to do it.

See my post How Millennial Money inspired me to start saving $13,333.06 a year

GIVE

You give as a way to reach back and help those that come after you. It is a way to show your gratitude for all the things those that came before you have done.

There was a time there was no stock market. Or anesthesia. 😮

Let’s take a little walk down Wall Street.

The NYSE celebrated its 200th anniversary in 1992. Wall Street started under a tree in 1792 with commodities.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) was founded in 1896 with only 12 industrial stocks. Those 12 companies: American Cotton Oil, American Sugar, American Tobacco, Chicago Gas, Distilling & Cattle Feeding, General Electric, Laclede Gas, National Lead, North American, Tennessee Coal and Iron, U.S. Leather and U.S. Rubber.

My how things have changed. None of those stocks are now part of the DJIA.

The good thing about indexes is that unlike individual stocks, when things go south and a business performs badly or goes under, it is culled. That’s right. They remove it from the DJIA and replace it with another business. Usually one that is performing well. That is the reason you invest in indexes. For the protection against a business going out of business and you losing your shirt!

General Electric (GE) is the only member of the Dow Jones Industrial Average that has been in the index since it’s beginning in 1896. It is being taken out and replaced by Walgreens (WBA) as reported of July 2018. That’s a 122-year run.

They have made it easier for you to invest now than 100 years ago.

Dale Carnegie had to ask his mother to mortgage the house so that he could invest the funds in stocks that he knew. That was how he built his fortune. Remember to invest in what you know.  Earn a fortune and then give it away.

Giving is one of the best ways to be philanthropic.

Remember that part in the movie Troy where Achilles asks his mother if he should go to Troy. And she says to him only if he wants his name to be remembered and live on throughout the ages.

Giving is a way to have immortality.

Case in point, Ms. Oseola McCarty inspired many others to donate to charity as well after she donated her life savings of $150,000 to a college in 1995. How’s that for a swan song? One of the biggest donors she inspired: Media Magnate and Mogul Ted Turner.

So why is it even noteworthy when Oseola McCarty, an elderly woman, donates $150,000 to the University of Southern Mississippi? In the case of Ms. McCarty, it is the heart behind the gift, and the lifetime of effort that went into it. For her act of kindness, she was awarded the Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor and got to ring the stock market opening bell.

How about that for recognition in helping others? And she asked nothing for herself or in return. These things were given to her for her charitable contribution to society.

Giving is passed down from generation to generation.

So, if you want to be immortal and have your memory live on forever, one word: give.
